Testimonials from Guitar Students

What a pleasure it is to work with a professional musician, skilled in so many styles, experienced with studio recording and live performance. Rex has been patient at the same time energetic with our teenage son while he learns bass. Rex really showed his musicianship when he agreed to work with me too, writing cello parts for classic rock pieces I enjoy jamming to with family. Very pleased with Rex and his methods!  Kerr H.

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years but have never took the time to actually learn the guitar and read music. I’m a new student of Rex and I’ve learned more about the guitar in one month of lessons then I have since I started playing. His teaching method makes learning easy fitting all types of styles, music and levels of experience. Most importantly, Rex is a great guy, we met a month ago but it feels like I’ve known him for years!  -  Joe I.  – San Ramon, CA

Rex, for over twenty years I have tried to learn to play the Banjo. Last Monday was the flrst time that I actually played a tune on it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!! Larry R. -  San Ramon California

Rex is a great teacher. He is patient, encouraging and a stickler for teaching details. He doesnt spend all lesson showing off his skills,he actually teaches the student. I have been taking lessons for 9 months and plan to continue until I can go it alone. Keep up the great work “chop master”. Michael S. – Vallejo CA

I have played the Bass guitar for over forty years. Many years ago I took 4 semesters of beginning theory with Dave Froelich at Solano Community College which I suppose has lasted quite a while,But where Rex Bell has guided me in just a few lessons has freed me up to play beyond what I had only imagined. Keep up the Good work Rex. Thanks Kenny B. – Danville CA

Rex is not only a good teacher, but he is fun. I’ve been playing many years but Rex has taught me alot about chord substitution, theory, and reading.  Diana – San Ramon, CA

I have had the pleasure of rehearsing and performing with Rex over the past 8 years and am a performing musician who continues to take guitar lessons from him. His knowledge of not only guitar technique but his vast understanding of music theory and arranging – and – what it takes to perform with professional musicians puts him on a level truly unmatched by most other instructors. Craig H. – San Ramon CA

Rex has been a God send to me. I have been an entertainer vocals and guitar for 35 years. I learned most of the Micky Baker jazz chords but never understood completely what made 7th 5ths etc.. After one month of guitar lessons with Rex… Its all starting to fit like a puzzle. Its very rare in life we get work with an extraordinary highly developed professional like Rex Bell.  -  John R

I picked up my first guitar at a local music store about two years ago. I paid to have lessons from one of the gentlemen at the store for two months. I must say at the end of the two months I was very discouraged. I hadn’t learned ANYTHING except a couple of beginner’s chords, which frankly, I could have learned on my own. I quit the lessons and decided to self teach with books and You Tube videos. That is until I pulled up behind a car at the gas station that had Guitar Confidence advertised on the back window. As I pumped my gas I said to my self “that guy must passionate about playing and teaching guitar.” In a split second my curiosity was peaked. I was still hesitant from my last so called “guitar lesson”, but I said “what the heck”! I approached the gentleman, and he introduced himself, “hello my name is Rex”, and we hit it off immediately. We exchanged phone numbers, and set up our first lesson. Rex arrived at my house on time with guitar, lap top, and music stand in hand. I thought man this is going to be awesome! I was not disappointed! Rex asked me to play what I knew, so that he could gauge what level I was playing at, and it didn’t take him long. At the end of the first lesson it was obvious that this guy knew his stuff, and I had just had one of the best guitar players that I’ve ever heard teaching me guitar in my own home. I learned more in that one hour lesson then I learned the whole entire two months with the other gentleman. I’ve been taking lessons from Rex for six months now, and I look forward to not only learning the art of playing guitar from a pro, but Rex is just a great guy to be around. He has encouraged me to play songs that I never thought I would be playing as a beginner. For the first time I feel like I can tell people I play the guitar. So……. if you are looking for a pro to teach you guitar look no further! Rex is the man!

Keep it up Rex! Your dedication to teaching is truly amazing!

I started taking lessons from rex in late 1998, until 2001, in that time I went from a very shy beginner to very energetic and confident player and also played in the rock ansemble in a few venues, ( oakland kids fest, dean lesher theater of arts,) just to name a few, was the most fun I had ever had and completly boosted my confidence in my music playin.

I am very happy with your progress teaching my son (N). The little guitar he knew before has blossomed and he is now truly learning not only how to play the guitar, but understanding the instrument and learning music theory. Your method works! Thank you.

Though I’d played guitar for thirty years, there were many gaping holes in my skills. I contacted Rex because I wanted to learn barre chords, fingerpicking and how to read music. Within three short months, Rex has taught me these things and more. His method is great and lets anyone learn at their own pace. I have improved immensely since starting to work with Rex and am very pleased with everything.

I had worked in top 40/variety bands throughout the eighties and the first half of the nineties. By 1994, I had become burned out and disenchanted with playing music. Rex asked me to play with his RGS Rock Combo. I thought I really knew music by then. Boy! Did Rex ever open my eyes. He is by far the most knowledgeable, and professional musician I have ever had the pleasure to work with. His understanding of music and his expectations for me, pushed my playing up to a whole new level. I began to play charts I barely even knew how to read before. My joy in music restored, I began to write and continue to evolve in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. And now, I hear that you are re-activating the RGS Student Recital Ensemble. I can’t wait to pick up where we left off. Rex, you are a world-class musician and a great friend.
